• check that students are really decoding CVC words (and not guessing them by first letter, word shape, or pictures);
• revise 'b' and 'd' - commonly confused letters - in words, sentences and short texts; and
• introduce six sets of high frequency irregular ‘sight words’, within other decodable sentences loaded with CVC words.
